Sher-I-Kashmir Police Academy
at Udhampur was established as Police Training College in the year 1981 and upgraded to the level of Academy in April 1998. The Academy runs induction courses for Dy.SsP, Prosecuting Officers and Sub-Inspectors of Armed, Executive and Telecommunication Police, besides promotion courses of Sgcts, Head Constables and ASIs. The Academy also runs 38 specialized courses for various ranks.
Directly recruited DySsP of State Police were earlier trained at Police Training College Phillaur , but from 1984 onwards all such trainees have been trained at Sher-I-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur.
The complex is spread over an area of 2200 Kanals of land. There is roofed accommodation for 850 trainees and 200 staff members. The accommodation includes a hostel for GOs. About 3,500 Police personnel of different ranks are trained in the institution annually. Forensic Science Laboratory, Riding School, Semi-Automatic firing range, Fire Arms Training Simulators, Computer Lab and Dog Training School are also located in the campus.
Location and Climate
The Academy is 03 KMs south of Udhampur town near village Badali. Udhampur is 65 KMs from Jammu on Jammu/Srinagar NHW and public transport is available for reaching Udhampur from Jammu or Srinagar. During summer, Udhampur is comparatively hot and temperature touches 40
degree Celsius but it is otherwise pleasant during the year. The winter from December to February is severe and
woolens are required.
